2009/2010 PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF CHINA SCHOLARSHIP

The Fiji Government through the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China invites applications for awards tenable in China for the 2009-2010 academic year.

Applicants should note that scholarship programmes are listed as follows and are instructed in Chinese:

    1. Undergraduate
    2. Master’s
    3. Doctoral Degree
    4. Trainee applicants 

Applicants may choose one academic program & three institutions as personal preferences from the list of Chinese higher education institutions designated by MOE. Please check the Directory of Chinese Higher Institutions Admitting Students under Chinese Government Scholarship Program & Academic Programs or the website of CSC (www.csc.edu.cn/Lianhua) for details. Applicants are required to fill in preferences of institutions and academic programs strictly in accordance with those listed in the Directory.    

Priority will be given to candidates whose area of work addresses the following categories which are part of Fiji’s priority areas of training:

    1. Veterinary Science
    2. Agricultural Economist
    3. Geology/Hydrology
    4. Health[Cardiologist]
    5. Forestry, Timber & Silviculture
    6. GIS
    7. Town & Country Planning
    8. Quantity Survey
    9. Engineering[Electrical/Grid/Network/Electronic,Mechanical,Civil[Design & Roads], Civil[Structures & Construction]
    10. Quantity Survey
    11. Architecture

Eligibility:

    1. Must be a citizen of Fiji
    2. Applicants for undergraduate programs must have completed  Foundation Year programme  with’ B’ average or Fiji Seventh Form examination with marks of 290 & above and under the age of 25 are eligible to apply.
    3. Applicants for Master degree should hold or expect to hold by the commencement date of study, a first degree & be under the age of 35.
    4. Applicants for Doctoral degree programs should normally have graduated from a  Master’s degree and should be under the age of 40.
    5. The type of training applied for should be relevant to the applicant’s current employment
    6. Chinese language students must have senior high school diploma and be under the age of 35, will study Chinese language in China.
    7. General scholar candidates must have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies and under the age of 45, may study all majors besides Chinese language
    8. Senior scholar candidates must have master’s degree or above, or hold academic titles of associate professor or above, and be under the age of 50.
    9. Should not be under any Bonding condition

How to Apply

    1. People’s Republic of China Scholarship Application Forms can be obtained from the Public Service Commission Scholarship Unit.
    2. Applications from Civil Servants must be submitted through their Permanent Secretary/Head of Department for their comments (this would be the employer’s assessment). Applications not assessed are not usually considered.

Applicants must submit the application form which should also have:

    1. A  recent passport sized photograph.
    2. A certified copy of all academic transcripts.
    3. A certified copy of birth certificate or evidence of date of birth.
    4. A statement of not more than 200 words on your study plan in China.
    5. Admission letter or Admission Notice of Chinese Universities.
    6. A curriculum vitae.
    7. A Foreign Physical Examination Form.
    8. Two letters of recommendation.
