The Fiji Volunteer Service is established under the National Employment Centre (NEC) Decree, 2009. The Decree is to Reform the Management of Employment Creation Services by the Ministry of Labour, Industrial Relations Employment. Under the Decree, the Minister designated the Public Service Commission as the agency to manage the Fiji Volunteer Service. The main function of the Fiji Volunteer Service is to engage unemployed persons and retirees who wish to serve society in the spirit of volunteering in any local and regional undertakings including green growth initiatives or projects.

VOLUNTEERISM

Volunteerism is a means engaging people to tackle some of the development challenges. It requires the contribution and participation of both the public and private sectors and the communities. Volunteering is considered as one of the best and productive form of professional and personal development, adding value to society through free contribution of effort and skills.

FVS will be engaging retirees and unemployed graduates in 2012, ages ranging from 25 to 70 years.

RECRUITMENT

FVS will be recruiting from the National Employment Center (NEC) Office, so all those wishing to be engaged as volunteer will have to register with NEC, Ministry of Labour, Industrial Relations and Employment.

Requirement for registration with NEC:
1. Original birth certificate & a photocopy of this original
2. A current passport size photo
3. Original certificates and transcripts (with copiesof these documents)
4. TIN letter or No.
5. Bank account details
6. Driver's licence (optional)
7. FNFP card
8. Passport (optional)
9. Letter of expression of interest addressed to: Permanent Secretary for the Public Service, PO Box 2211, Govt Bldg.

ALLOWANCE

A volunteer will be paid a weekly allowance of which 50% of the allowance by FVS and the other 50% will be paid be paid by the receiving organisation or agency.
