The Public Service Commission has announced the appointment of Mr Savenaca Kaunisela as the new Permanent Secretary for I-Taukei Affairs and Mr Filimone Kau as the new Permanent Secretary for Lands and Mineral Resources.
Chairman for the Public Service Commission, Mr Josefa Serulagilagi said the positions were the two remaining senior posts advertised last year.
In congratulating both Permanent Secretaries, Mr Serulagilagi said that the posts are critical positions in the public service, which not only demands exceptional leadership qualities but individuals who are committed to making a difference in Government’s quest to reforming public institutions in becoming transparent and accountable as well as bringing about the necessary changes and improvements in the delivery of Governments services.
Mr Savenaca Kaunisela, joined the Public Service Commission on January 1st 1977 and he was promoted to Deputy Secretary, Public Service Commission on 13.06.2001. He was appointed to the position of Commissioner Western on April 11th 2006 and served for three years as Fiji’s High Commission to India from December 2007 to December 2010.
Mr Filimone Kau, joined the Ministry of Information in 1989 and was promoted to Principal Information Officer in 1997-2000. He then joined the Public Service Commission as the Director Senior Executive Service from 2000-2001 and was later appointed Director Human Resource Management in 2000-2003. From 2003 -2006 he was Fiji’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations. In 2007, he held the position of Director Information. In 2008, he was Head of the Public Relations and Media Team of the National Council for Building a Better Fiji and rose to the ranks of Acting Deputy Secretary Ministry of National Planning in January 2009 by November 2010 he was the Acting Permanent Secretary for Lands and Mineral Resources.
Both Permanent Secretaries contracts are for 3 years effective from March 14th 2011 till March 13th 2014.
