The Permanent Secretary for the Public Service, Mr Parmesh Chand says despite repeated reminders from the Public Service Commission for all ministries and departments to register their employees in accordance with Section 63, Regulation 7 of the FNPF Act, this reminder has not been followed.
Mr Chand said the non-compliance from ministries and departments has resulted in the accumulation of a substantial sum of unidentified contributions in the FNPF Suspense Account.
“All Ministries and Departments are urged to take immediate action for the registration of all unregistered current and past employees as failure to do so is in breach of the FNPF legislations.”
He said Ministries failing to comply would either be charged to a fine not exceeding $500 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 2 months or face both charges.
Mr Chand emphasized that nonpayment of contributions of employees who died before becoming a member of FNPF would not be eligible for special death benefit.
He added that a half day compulsory training will be facilitated by FNPF in the Central, Western and Northern Divisions for desk officers directly involved with appointments and processing of salaries.
The first training for the Central Division will commence on September 14 2010 at PSC’s Centre for Training Division at Nasese at 9am.
