10 more government quarters are expected to be up for grabs and will soon be leased to tenants by the Public Service Commission.
The Permanent Secretary for the Public Service, Mr Parmesh Chand said the 10 which have been identified will undergo renovations before they are leased to soon to-be tenants by September this year.
“We are about to award contracts very soon, and these Quarters will be commercially rented out once the renovations have been completed,” Mr Chand said.
So far a total of 55 Government Quarters have been rented this year, fetching in total a rental in excess of $50,000 a month as opposed to the minimal rental previously.
It is expected that 70 quarters will be rented out by end of this year on commercial basis.
Most of the government quarters rented are located in prime areas around the greater Suva area ranging from Ratu Sukuna road,Muanikau, Domain and Veiuto.
The commercialization of government quarters is a part of government’s public sector reform programme. It is yielding excellent results and is expected to be fully implemented by mid of next year. |
