REGULARISATION OF ACTING APPOINMENTS
The Public Service Commission has approved the regularization of acting appointments of 2,222 civil servants.
Chairman for the Public Service Commission, Mr Josefa Serulagilagi confirmed that a total of 2,479 acting appointments were submitted by Ministries and Departments for regularization. Out of this, 257 did not meet the criteria of mandatory 6 months acting as at 31 March, 2010.
Mr Serulagilagi said the Commission was concerned with the increasing number of acting appointments arising from posts being vacant within the civil service and needed to find a way forward through regularization, thereby cleaning up the backlog that existed.
He added with the exercise complementing Government’s reform initiatives of a well organized and better performing civil service, the confirmation of acting appointments will definitely encourage and motivate staff towards achieving quality in efficiency and productivity.
The largest submission was made by the Ministry of Education followed by the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Primary Industries.
