PSC SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS TO BE NOTIFIED

The final decision on the Public Service Commission Scholarships will be made within next week.

Permanent Secretary for the Public Service, Mr Parmesh Chand confirmed that more than 500 applicants were interviewed and their results are currently being assessed. There were 1,439 applications received for PSC Scholarships.

“We have many applications to process. This year we are targeting the award of 180 scholarships tenable both locally and overseas. The award of scholarships are in areas where Fiji most needs skills and expertise given our development priorities.”

Mr Chand has urged parents, guardians and applicants to have patience since the Scholarship Committee is guided firstly by the outcomes of the interviews and secondly by the results.

“The Government will be spending $7million this year to cater for new PSC Scholarships as well as funding of continuing students previously granted such scholarships. There is also $1million available in 2010 Budget to cater for continuing students studying under the PSC Loan Scheme. The applications for Multi Ethnic and Indigenous Affairs Scholarships are dealt with separately by the respective Ministries.”
