- When I apply for a scholarship does it mean I get a place at the institution ?
- NO. Students need to apply separately to the institution to get placement and apply separately for the scholarship.
- What is the bond ?
- The Bond is the period of service one needs to undertake following the completion of one’s studies. Under the PSC policy the bond of service is calculated as follows:
- 3 years study at USP x 1.5 years = 4.5years bond of service to the country. This 4.5 years will also have a monetary value.
- If one fails to complete their bond of service, they are required to repay the monetary value of the remainder of that unserved portion of the bond.

- Who are eligible to apply for the PSC Scholarship ?
- All racial groups
- Fiji Citizens
- Between 18-35 years
- Continuing students in sponsored institutions like FIT, USP and UOF
- What are some of the reasons a person may not be given a scholarship ?
- Scholarship policy – 60/40 (60% for FF/FR and 40% for OI/OG)
- Students did not apply
- Incomplete academic records
- Student did not secure a placement in the institution he/she applied for
- How will I know that I have been selected ?
- PSC Scholarship Unit calls the student to inform them of their selection as well as the details for orientation.
- Is income a criteria for scholarship selection ?
- NO – Students are rewarded for their personal academic achievement.
- If I have a sibling who is already on the PSC scholarship, does it penalize me from applying?
- NO - students will get the same scholarship conditions as their siblings i.e full scholarship.
- How do you determine the programs that are advertised ?
- The advertised programs are identified following a survey of the training needs of the public and private sector by the Ministry of National Planning. Selected programs that are provided in local tertiary institutions are identified and advertised. The Public Service Commission endorses the areas of training and these areas are advertised by the Scholarship Unit.
- If selected for a scholarship, what is the duration of the assistance ?
- The scholarship is for the entire period of study – until one completes his/her program. However the continuation of the scholarship depends upon the academic performance per semester of the student.
- If one passes all of the sponsored units in the semester than the full scholarship continues. If one fails 2 out of the 4, the scholarship will continue but one will receive lesser allowances.
- If one passes less than 50% of the sponsored units in the semester than the scholarship is suspended until the student repeats the failed units at their own cost. The student can then apply in writing requesting for reinstatement of their scholarship.
- Does the Scholarship pay for units available on summer school ?
- Does the scholarship pay for any repeated units ?
